The marketplace business of Cnova, parent company of Cdiscount, takes off

Cnova sees its marketplace sales rise by 34% in the first quarter of 2021. Its Octopia solution is off to a dynamic start.

Cnova, owned by the Casino group, which includes Cdiscount, 1001 Pneus and C-Logistics, has seen revenues from its marketplace and digital marketing grow in Q1 2021. Sales from the marketplace raised by 34% compared to the first quarter of 2020 and accounted for 46% of total sales, or €197 million for the whole year.

Cdiscount.com has 10.5 million active customers in the 12 months to the end of March 2021, an increase of 15%. Cdiscount ranks second among French websites in terms of traffic, with 22 million unique monthly visitors. In 2020, Cnova recorded 6.3 million orders for 11.5 million products sold.

Similarly, the marketplace solution recently launched by the group, called Octopia, recorded an 86% increase and is now linked to 518 merchant sites, for delivery in 27 countries. Cnova's sales amounted to €517.9 million in the first quarter of 2021, up 5 percentage points on the same period the previous year. In addition, the Cdiscount Pro service saw its revenues rise by 44.7%.

Emmanuel Grenier, Cnova CEO, says: "The first quarter of 2021 confirms the good momentum recorded in 2020 as well as the relevance of Cnova's positioning, with strong GMV growth and improved profitability in an ever-changing environment in Europe, marked by strong and sustainable underlying trends: more online sales and home deliveries."

A rise also linked to the development of logistics and digital marketing

On the logistics side, express delivery offers are progressing: the Cdiscount Express Seller programme now concerns 1.4 million references, while Fulfilment by Cdiscount has reached a sales volume of 120.5 million euros. As a result of the improvement in the delivery experience (the delivery time has been reduced by 0.6 days compared to last year), Cnova's NPS rose by 2.5 points in the first quarter. This figure can also be explained by the "yes to the customer" policy: 80% of responses to complaints from Cdiscount à Volonté customers are positive and immediate.

Alongside, These revenues increased by 42.9% in the first quarter of 2021 compared to the first quarter of 2020.

Finally, Cnova is accelerating its CSR action plan and has recorded 2.6 million visits to its C to C platform (sale of second-hand items), while the company has announced that 85% of packages are sent without loss of space. Customers can also request that their parcels not be packed, which has resulted in the saving of 200,000 packages since October 2020.
